The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS)

IBERS is an internationally recognised research and teaching centre providing a unique base for research in response to global challenges such as food security, bioenergy and sustainability, and the impacts of climate change. IBERS' scientists conduct research on genes and molecules, whole organisms, and the environment.

AberInnovation and IBERS, co-located at the 100-year-old historic research site at Gogerddan aim to provide a One Campus vision. The innovation, technology and science developed by IBERS is further supported and accelerated towards the market by the AberInnovation offer.

IBERS focus is to carry out research to ensure that humanity can sustainably produce food, feed, and plat-based industrial resources it needs. It aligns with AberInnovation goal to deliver industry and academic collaboration within the industry, culture of knowledge exchange and entrepreneurship and positive relationship with local and regional business and stakeholders.

Current research programmes at IBERS are focused on the development and optimisation of enabling technologies combined with bio-processing design covering technology readiness level, taking projects from the conceptual stage through to industrially relevant scales utilising pilot-scale facilities at AberInnovation.

AberInnovation is structured to complement IBERS’ research and work at pace with industry to help them develop and scale new products or services.
