The New Bow Street Station development, funded by the Welsh Government and the Department for Transport has officially opened.

The development opportunity was first identified back in 2010, offering value for money and with a strong local backing. The station brings with it much-needed benefits such as reducing congestion and parking issues in Aberystwyth as well as enhancing employment and educational opportunities for locals.

UK Government Rail Minister Chris Heaton-Harris said: “It is fantastic that vital rail links have been restored for the Bow Street community for the first time in more than 50 years.

“Our investment in new stations is focused on improving journeys, boosting access to jobs and education and kickstarting economic growth as we build back better from Covid-19.”

Once it is safe to do so, the new transport link will directly serve our Innovation and Enterprise Campus, AberInnovation. A short distance from the Bow Street Interchange, we look forward to welcoming an array of visitors through our doors.

Dr Rhian Hayward, AberInnovation CEO said: “The Bow Street station offers a huge opportunity for industry and academia to easily access AberInnovation and Aberystwyth University at our research campus. We collaborate with companies and other universities from all over the world - and the train line from Birmingham and London now stops at our door. A great addition to our efforts towards further economic growth.”

The station itself comprises a 100m long single platform with a passenger waiting shelter, real-time information point and ticket machine. For commuters, it also includes a 70-space park and ride car park, bus drop-off and pick-up point, access to local cycle routes and a covered cycle shelter.

Councillor Dafydd Edwards, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services, Housing and Customer Contact, said: “On behalf of Ceredigion County Council, I am very pleased Transport for Wales has now completed the new Public Transport Interchange at Bow Street.

“None of this would have happened without the vision, hard work and dedication of many individuals and organisations working together over the last 10 years on this project. Make no mistake this is a big step forward for Ceredigion and Mid Wales - the Interchange will provide a much-needed boost for the local economy and help to improve the availability of sustainable travel opportunities as part of our efforts to de-carbonise the transport sector.”

We welcome such investment in Mid Wales’ infrastructure and hope to witness more in future.
